The Carers Trust is a national charity but they have a local Asian community group in Coventry and were interested in what I was working on when I visited the BOPA networking evening last month.
The re-invention of the Coventry project is a real turn around in my approach. Essentially to produce teaware based on an authentic story that champions the role of carers as a whole really means something to me. I can see it as a positive conversion of all the care that I have been given in my own story. Nothing worthwhile is ever done alone and the attention and unceasing process of care that I have been the recipient of (not all kindness, but all care) has been a motivating factor in lots of my creative work.
To be able to make the most challenging conversion – money – would be a great feeling and I would be able to contribute to their funds so they can continue their work as well. So, the plan is to run consultation workshops to gather the stories of these most secret but essential people and, literally, bring them to the surface of by putting them on ceramic pieces that they can use in their every day lives and in the coffee mornings that bring them together in any case.
